Re: Aquarium to Greenhouse

I use a 10 gallon fishtank. I insulated the sides, made a lid with 2 compact fluorescent lights (I can't remember the wattage off the top of my head) and some vents, and cut a piece of plexiglass for the pots to rest on. The plexiglass is on 2" legs and underneath is filled with water and a sma...

Re: Sick Crassula

How long have you had the plant, and what type of soil is it in? In a low-light indoor situation, I'd be worried about rot. I second the notion that you should pull it out of the soil and inspect the roots.

Re: =^-^= Eutow_Int* Plants from seed . .

They are looking good!! Looks like you'll have quite a few nice cacti there once they grow up. I can totally sympathize with your lack of sunshine - I actually have a few plants hanging between a window and a fluorescent grow light. They grow toward the fluorescent light haha!

Re: Cutting an unstable cactus in half?

I would probably try and avoid breaking any spines by placing it on a cushioned surface, perhaps an large folded towel or similar material. I'm certainly no expert, but plants in general don't have the regenerative abilities of animals, and I believe any damage to the spines would just callous over ...

Re: Soil/gravel/perlite mix?

This is just my experience, but I've found perlite to work perfectly fine provided I top dress with a good layer of gravel. That keeps everything from floating and I wouldn't be without it. Other than that I have no problems, and since I grow indoors and don't have the wind to contend with, having l...

Re: Questions about accommodating my cacti while I'm displac

I'm pretty new to this, so take my advice with that disclamer in mind. If it were me, I'd do what Iann and hoteidoc have suggested. I also grow all my plants indoors and am not a fan of bringing the outdoor pests into my home. Ever since I've started doing a good cleaning, observation period, and re...
