Re: Lithops
One of my old Lithops flowering don't know what species? I have a yellow flowering Lithop also but it flowers later. Probably done watering for the rest of the year. I water them just like my cactus. I don't like to disagree with Iann's ID as he has been growing Lithops for far longer than I have, ...

Re: cactus cutting turning black
If it's not going soft, leave it for a couple of weeks, then put it in some free draining gravel until it roots. It could take several months.

Re: Silver torch cactus discolouration at top problem help!!
If they are definitely two separate plants I agree you should pot them separately. If the second stem is growing on the same rootstock, you could be drastic and chop down the "dodgy" stem, leaving the "good" stem to continue growing. If you do the latter of the two suggestions, y...

Gasterias appreciate a bit of shade, in fact most of them don't need direct sun at all.

I use a limit of 250Kb, which is ample for online viewing and just under the limit for uploads on this forum. This is the software I use. It's free but donations are welcome. http://software.macek.cc/resampler2010.php?lngp=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Silver torch cactus discolouration at top problem help!!
Give it some water without fertiliser till you see signs of growth from somewhere on the plant or from the base. Then give fertiliser in every second or third watering.

Re: Old man cactus discolouration at top problem help!!
This appears to be a Cleistocactus strausii and it looks as though the top of the main stem has died. This happened to two of my C. strausii stems last winter and can be due to insufficient water in the dormant season. They don't like their roots to be completely dry. In my case the top third of the...

Could be the remnants of a mealy bug egg cluster. I'd look very closely for evidence of mealy bugs and their cotton wool-like egg clusters, See links below. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=201" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mealyb...

Re: Lithops timetable
I see. Thanks Rod. Though, you mention that the process should more or less be done by June (generally), so this means they do this prior to deep summer (in your country at least)? I've been reading around, and it's repeatedly stressed that Lithops will be dormant in very hot weather, so in your ca...

Re: Need help - Mealybug(?) & Broken Sprout
In the main picture the stem of the plant is very wrinkled and could be dying. It looks as though the top of the plant (as much as can be seen) is rotting. The white fluff in at the base of the tubercles is the natural hairy fluff from the plant. By the overall look of the plant I'd say you don't ha...

Re: Lithops timetable
If you're in the northern hemisphere, your lithops should be coming towards the end of its regeneration process. You will need to withhold water until the old leaves are like paper, with minimum density, ie no flesh on them. In the UK this is usually around late April to early June, depending on the...

It's best to post photos as attachments to the post on the forum. Makes it much easier to access the photos as they are then part of the message.
