Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic

What do you use for staging/benches? Looks like an aluminum grid in places and a plastic grid in others? I have my plants outdoors and I'm trying to find a staging solution that's sturdy and can deal with the elements (sun mostly) while not costing an arm and a leg...

Re: A small collection: 2015 and beyond

Good to see you're back, Steve. I enjoy your detailed observations. As for more interesting Gymno flower colors, have you considered G. andreae? Should be relatively easy to come by, but admittedly not the most distinguished plant body or spination (looks very cookie-cutter Gymnocalycium). I think a...

Re: Why not Parodia?

Another interesting plant is Notocactus calvescens, which is a Wigginsia without spines (looks a bit like a bald, woolly W. erinaceus).

Pretty sure Bulbines technically have rhizomes, not bulbs (which are layered like an onion). I have the impression Bulbines are not extremely long-lived and need to be rejuvenated or resown every few years to ensure continuity. Or maybe that's what I need to do to keep them in my collection :) Lucki...

Re: Updated seed lists

Got my order last week (Lithops only). I received most of what I ordered but most of the 'choicer' species seem to be sold out. Fortunately I got a good number of those over the last few years, before Asia sales went insane.

Re: Updated seed lists

I know there's new ownership and they're overwhelmed, which is why I'm okay with a somewhat slower response. I also don't want to ping them needlessly, but it sounds like I should send an email regardless. My order is mostly mesembs.

I sent mine over on Dec 6, 2016. Hopefully, I will hear from them before long!
Early January iirc.

Re: Worried about my titanopsis

Looks like you may have root mealies (white patches on/around the roots). Wash the roots in a soapy solution and use an insecticide on the roots and bottom of the plant (contact? not sure how useful a systemic is when the plant's not growing). You may have to repeat this treatment more than once to ...

Fresh onions

After reading about leaf propagation of Lachenalia and associated hyacinths, I decided to give it a try by cutting off a few leaves close to the bulb, applying rooting powder and sticking them in some moist Turface. 3/4 attempts didn't go anywhere (leaves too old? too warm or too cold?) but the L. a...

Does Succulenta accept Paypal? The instructions only mention wire transfers (fee would be more expensive than the actual order).

Doubling up

Pleiospilos nelii occasionally doubles up its flowers. It looks like that's about to happen to both my run-of-the-mill greenie and my 'Royal Flush'. In both cases the flowers seem to originate from within one set of bracts.
