Re: Echeveria 'Lotus' propagation problems!!
How long would you say it takes to get a lone leaf to turn into its own little "plantlet?"

That looks perfect! I'm going to get my hands on some jade and give it a shot. Thanks, Dan!CactusFanDan wrote: and the most obvious one that comes to mind is the common Crassula ovata aka 'Jade plant'.

Re: Grafting Echeveria-- What stock?
Ideally it'd be a plant in the same family. Thanks for the heads-up. A: Does it have to be in the same family? B: According to the all-knowing wikipedia, Echeveria belong to the family Crassulaceae, which seems to contain a HUGE variety of some wicked-looking plants. I thumbed through genus or two ...

Grafting Echeveria-- What stock?
Hi guys, I was curious about trying to graft some echeveria or other rosettes to get some quick offsets, but it's my understanding that I can't use peresiopsis, opuntia, hylocereus, etc for the stock. I don't know much about the non-cacti side of succulents, but I'm sure some stocks must be more sui...

Re: grafting on pereskiopsis, additional techniques
These guys are pretty awesome. I've really been digging parafilm instead of the cling wrap, mostly because i'm too clumsy to keep from letting the cling-wrap bunch up before i need it-- i can hardly even use it to wrap food though.

Re: Anyone wanna try a ROUND ROBIN?
I forgot to mention, I was considering throwing a bunch of pereskiopsis into the box, but it was my thought that they wouldn't survive more than one leg in the voyage, so if anybody want's a few cloners, let me know. They're going to be moving into the closet in 2 or 3 months and they won't all fit.

Re: Anyone wanna try a ROUND ROBIN?
Opening this box felt like watching one of those clowns pull colored rope out of their mouth that just keeps going and going and going.... I spent the last hour and a half combing through newspaper and wrapping up cuttings. I've never even heard of some of these genus' before. Pretty humbling stuff....

Re: Color-changing dogtail cactus
Update: I stumbled upon a cheap (3.00) bottle of Schultz 2-7-7 plant food. It says it contains .05% zinc and .10& iron... as i type this i'm a little dismayed because I thought i read 5% and 1% when i was at the store. Thoughts?

Re: Grafting Gymnocalycium on Pereskiopsis
The only seedlings I've ever tried (on pereskiopsis) were e. Micromeris and after killing about 8 of them, two have succeeded. I think the humidity and shade helped, but also the chosen stock. This might be coincidence, but I picked a fat older pereskiopsis, cut it, and then waited for new growth fr...

Re: Color-changing dogtail cactus
Ah crap. Well thanks for the info. I had to slice it off-- it finally ruptured from its own weight and becoming so soft. I don't THINK i have very hard water, but I'll get some pH strips to test it. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to need some fertilizer. Does anyone have any recommendations ...
