Re: pink seedlings
I would try grafting them to keep them alive, however, I would practice on other seedlings first, just so you could figure out the technique and be sure the pink ones will live.

Mammillaria (Cochemiea) pondii?
Is this species relatively easy to grow from seed?
I would absolutely love to see those flowers in person.
I'll probably try to grow it as long as it is not very hard.
So, should I try it?
Thanks!!

Re: Cold Hardy Columner Cacti?
Whoa!
I was reading through some old threads, and on this one it says that Cleisocactus strausii can take down to -10 celcius (around 14 farenheight) with the stem tips protected.
I thought it was a lot less cold hardy than this.
Is this true?
If it is, then I could put mine outside.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot!
You are welcome hoteidoc!
I may get some seeds or plants of T. fromosa now...
I'll definately try at least those species in the pdf, and probably the ones in MJPapay's post.
Thanks again!

Re: Cold Hardy Columner Cacti?
I just found a list by the Austin Cactus and Succulent Society of cold-hardy cacti. I see four different columners on it. You can find it here: http://austincss.com/Cold%20Hardy%20Cacti%20&%20Succulents%2003-11.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This may be helpful for ...

Re: Agave's in the news
Both these articles are fails! Why is it so important when those flower over there? Here in my neghborhood, there are at least 4 flowering Agaves right now! In this whole city, there are at least 50 or so Agaves flowering now, and most are the large A. americana. So why exactly is it so important th...

My grafting experiments
Hello!
I have just grafted a saguaro onto a hylocereus through the superglue method.
I've also grafted one onto an opuntia.
On the same opuntia, I've also grafted a cleisocactus strausii areole.
I hope they take!
Though, the saguaro on opuntia looks like it's already failed...

Re: Cold Hardy Columner Cacti?
I would be able to protect from the wet, but not the cold, so I'll look into the possibility of getting one of the high altitude ones/

Cold Hardy Columner Cacti?
Are there any cold hardy columners? Here in central Texas, we are borderline zone 8 and 9. (90% of winters, we don't get below 23 degrees farenheight, and the other 10% gets down no lower than 15) In the summer, the highs are always over 90, sometimes over 100. The lows are in the 70's to 80's. In t...

Re: Pitaya strain grown with hydroponics
I sprouted a ton of dragonfruit seeds, and after thinning them out several times, i still have 30-40. I had almost a 100% germination rate.
And yes, these are Hylocereus.

Re: Planting an Agave outside in the UK?
If you can somehow protect it from rain in the middle of winter, you can put it outside in the ground.
In one of my British succulent books, it suggests planting an agave on a slope so that water drains away from the crown.

What plants do you dread repotting?
Because of their sharp spines, danger of killing the plant etc... For me it is Mammillaria mystax because while I was repotting it yesterday, one of the spines went through a rubber gardening glove 1/8" thick right into my finger!! I've noticed that this plant's spines don't break very easily a...
