Re: Your Most Wanted - IN HABITAT
Have you seen the CalFlora website? You can find detailed locality information for almost every California plant including Dudleyas. Of course the biggest problem in finding D. blochmaniae is how tiny it is! So it is easy to miss even when you are in the right habitat. I check CalFlora for things f...

Re: Your Most Wanted - IN HABITAT
Probably L. williamsii in West Texas would be my absolute most wanted to see cactus...its also probably an extreme longshot. For succulents, Im still working on finding Dudleya blochmaniae ssp. brevifolia which is native to my own home area.

Re: newly published taxa
I wonder if it would work to put word out to everyone publishing in the field to also send a note to a clearinghouse of sorts. I would love to get those emails. :-) peterb It may be possible to contact the journals in which new species descriptions are commonly published, explain your interest/goal...

Re: First successful graft!
Onzuka, at least the solution to that problem is simple, Im sure you know that all you need is to have enough seedling grafts to keep you busy and not allow time to over-coddle!

Re: Welwitschia - albino?
I've grown many welwitschias from seed They start out brown, or lite brown, and then turn green after a couple weeks or months That is a relief. All 4 of the other seedlings are already showing definite signs of transitioning from brown to green. The weird one is still weird and hasnt really grown ...

Re: Seedling graft
Just some updates and a couple new grafts. The unknown seedling graft (that I thought was a Cintia), Mammillaria compressa: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8371/8486682525_03014f3aa8.jpg Strombocactus disciformis graft #2 (of 4 total successes): http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8508/8486682755_3ee0be9afc...

Re: Welwitschia - albino?
I sowed on 2/8/13 and most (3/5) of the seedlings came up and out of the soil on Friday 2/15/13 by midday with the last normal one Sat. morning. The oddly colored seedling was the last to pop up some of the soil on Saturday evening and emerged above the surface during the night.

Welwitschia - albino?
So, I purchased some Welwitschia mirabilis seed from Mesa Garden earlier this year...and one of my seedlings looks a little weird. Anyone have input on if this will darken up like the others or if it is going to stay this way/die? It has not gotten any darker in the past 24hrs... http://farm9.static...

I seem to remember that in order for this to work the Fero has to be the "mother" plant, the one which is pollinated.

Very interesting! Thank you for explaining the process, I had no idea the PRC program even existed. I was afraid that all the plants not returned to the country of origin would be destroyed!hegar wrote:What happens to a confiscated cactus depends on various scenarios.

Ahh, for some reason I had forgotten that it was you who posts these sorts of things (unidentified cacti) with some regularity.
What happens to the plants after you guys seize them? Are you allowed to keep them, are they destroyed, or are they returned to Mexico?

Re: Is this a Cactus or other Kind of Succulent?
Where did you acquire that from? I think the reason that lophs are not often sold is that many people simply do not want to deal with the potential risks if a law enforcement agency decided to cause trouble for them, even if they were selling L. diffusa. I believe that ebay also bars their sale, at ...
