Agave not taking up water...

Hello all, i have an Agave americana, which seems to not take up any water. This problem has only occurred after the winter, i checked its roots and they seem to be all there, gave them a little trim and re-potted it. Yet every time i water it, it refuses to take any up. It's getting quite shriveled...

I always get them. Not that they eat my cacti apart from the occation Opuntia pad.

Had a big problem with them like 3 years back completely ravaged the new pads. By now i my GH is quite hot and very very dry they don't seem to come in.

Yes after having a look at Carnegia. I guess i must withdraw my guess on that. The spines just arnt long enough or grey/white enough to be that.
