Re: Astrophytum seed germination
Astrophytum is the genus of cactii which seeds have very high germination rate, and seedlings are very easy to grow.

Re: Seedlings abuse
My 1.5 months old Sclerocactus and Toumeya shrank... I didn't expect it's still alive, but surprisingly they blow up to normal "fat'' seedlings. I would suggest that shrinkage is common for Sclers of any age.

Re: Very new. Possibly over my head?
Let me tell you what I do: 1) soil mix and coarse sand put in 2 different bowls, microwave them for 20 minutes 2) get cell-box (from candies of medicine), label each cell with the name of the species, put bit of H2O2 3% on the bottom of each cell, soak seeds for 2-3 hrs. I use Ferrero Rocher box wit...

Re: Germinating Pediocactus is hard?
I do. It works.
I seeded scarified Pediocactus and Sclerocactus, and Toumeya which was not scarified. Pedio&Sclero began to germinate in 2 days, Toumeya did not.
Looking at Pedio/Sclero success I scarified the one of Toumeya seeds - still not result.

oh, I have read about it. If seeds are going to be disinfected and scarified, they do not need cold.

Re: Germinating Pediocactus is hard?
Yes, it is summer now. I know this time is not perfect for seeding Pediocactus, but I'll graft them, and they will be fine.

I have 6 of 10 Pediocactus germinated on 3rd day after seeding. So happy!
(to compare, there is only one Sclerocactus germinated)

Re: Can't find these anywhere!
Caput-medusa seeds are too expensive in Mesa Garden. I was able to buy 20 seeds for $5 from other source but I do not remember the name of it. Just google ''caput-medusa seeds'' and you will find it. It is not rare anymore.
If you want, I can give you seller's e-mail. Send me a PM.

Finally, I have got a few plants from different sources to be able to pollinate them. I believe they will bloom next year.
