Re: What was your first cactus ever?

My first was Cereus Aethiops, still going strong today but from cuttings of the original which was overwatered....
Still find it quite a hard cactus to get hold of here in the UK

Re: How to pot a crested cactus

Thanks for the reply Steve, I agree with that. It's potted up now and I'll have to see what happens, hopefully it changes direction at some point!
I'll take pictures and post them when it's grown a bit...

Re: Squishy part on Astrophytum asterias nudum

I had a similar problem with an Asterias nudum, which had been attacked by mealies and not watered enough. It looked like yours and was hard to touch all over including the 'dented' parts. It has (nearly) returned to normal now after being watered more often and generally being looked after a bit be...

How to pot a crested cactus

Hello everyone, I just received this T.pachanoi crest from Holland, and as you can see, the fan shape has nearly gone full circle. I am wondering how to pot it up, obviously I'll use a bigger pot than the one in the picture, but should I plant it high on some sort of mound so the crest doesn't grow ...

Re: my collection so far....

Hi, may I ask where you get your limestone that small? I am struggling to find anywhere that offers say 25 - 50kg rather than a full dumpy bag, or who do less than 10mm size.

Re: And it begins!

Charlie - all my plants are on wire shelving from Lowes. I just use a hose spray, except when I fertilize. Watch that the ones on the bottom don't get too much dripping from above. I think the air circulation might compensate for my tendency to over water. Sue That sounds a lot easier Sue, I'll see...

Re: And it begins!

Very nice Dustin! I also saw your you tube video and liked it! I was wondering what sort of greenhouse it is? It looks as though you could leave your cacti on the staging and water them on there with all the holes on the top, is that what you do? It's a bit of a pain having to move every cactus off ...

Could also be spider mites which have damaged it, but I may be wrong on that....

Re: Brown cactus with growth pattern issues?

Hey, i'd guess the browning at the base is basal rot probably from overwatering, your compost looks pretty rich, may be worth mixing a free draining compost for them, like 50/50 potting compost and grit is the easiest, but if it is rot you'll need to cut it off to where the cut is all green inside -...

Re: Help with identification of 3 cacti

The first one could be a Parodia horstii (not sure about that though), the middle one looks like Echinocereus pectinatus (pretty sure about that), and the bottom one looks like Coryphantha clavata subsp. stipitata, hope thats a good start Dan!
