Re: Wanted: Rare Pediocactus species

Those stratification methods are really interesting. I may have to try those for some high altitude opuntia seeds I have too. Anyway, I found two of the species I was looking for at Mesa gardens and made an order. Thanks for the tip! When I email Mr. Hochstatter I will have to ask him about P. siler...

Re: Wanted: Rare Pediocactus species

DaveW, I may have contact Hochstatter about that. I guess what I really want to know is if it is legal to cultivate these protected/endangered species. As far as I know the only laws on them are protecting wild populations. P. sileri is only known to a very specific locality and if I recall correctl...

Wanted: Rare Pediocactus species

I understand many Pediocactus spp are protected or endangered. I am especially interested in finding seeds or young plants of P. sileri and winklerii, but also am looking for simpsonii. I am returning to the hobby and am more concerned about conservation through cultivation, especially of native spe...

Looking for L. Alberto-Vojtechii. Name your price!

Title pretty much sums it up. Looking for 2-3 of these guys preferably all with differing origins for good variation of seeds they will produce.

PM me and we can work something out.
Thanks!

Re: Small opuntia species

On another site I saw something called tunilla picardoi. Could it be a synonym?

Small opuntia species

Hi all.
Are there any particularly diminutive opuntia species that grow low to the ground and still have flat pads? Like 4 inches or less max plant height would be awesome. I would like to make a dish garden with some very small opuntia:)

Re: Opuntia genetics for no spines

Very helpfull guys!
Dean, thank you for verifying that they are compatable. As for flowering the fragilis I will just have to do my best and have a bit of luck.
I also am looking for that very plant in the plant swap forum, you can't miss it;)

Re: Opuntianoids and MLO

Well. Only one of the grafts made it. The opuntia on the pereskiopsis. After a while it began to grow and was pupping from every areole as usual. I cut the top off of the opuntia and grafted a pereskiopsis tip to it. In about a week I can tell you if the 2nd graft survived. And I should have some mo...

Re: Opuntia genetics for no spines

Wow. You guys both talked about the two plants I'm interested in. O. basalaris and o. Fragilis denuda. Would there be any hybridization issues with these two plants? I have basalaris but am looking for the denuda. Also need to store some pollen as I imagine they won't flower simultaneously.

Opuntia genetics for no spines

Hi.
I've been wondering what would happen if you crossed a spineless (glochidless too) opuntia with a normal one of a different species. Is it inherited? Or is spineless a physical mutation(like a crest)? Any information would be helpful.
Thanks.

Re: Opuntianoids and MLO

it is not always successfull, but sometimes it only grows monstrose when it is grafted, and when it is degrafted, they revert back to normal, and sometimes the mlo stays in the scion when degrafted, and sometimes it just does nothing. I also planned to do experiments with it, but i don't have enoug...

Opuntianoids and MLO

Is the MLO virus that causes monstrose growth in opuntia always successful in infecting a scion grafted to an infected stock? I want to infect several of my opuntia and perhaps cholla cacti via grafting. But is buying an O. Subulata monstrous worth the effort? Will all the grafts that take become in...

Unknown stapalied species. Help.

I have finally got this lovely plant to flower! But I was away when it opened and only caught the wilted bloom. What species is it?

Re: Loph flowers

Onzuka, the white ones are koehresii and the pink is fricii. None of my willys or diffusa have flowered yet. But yours do look exactly like my williamsii (but with flowers). If you like I can post a willy picture next week so you can compare.
