Re: Help with Brown Spots
I don't want to start out using any sort of chemical spray to try and prevent/kill any pests that may be trying to infest my plants, but could a diluted alcohol spray help kill any current pests without damaging the plants?I tried to get some of the spots to come off, but they wouldn't come off and ...

Re: Help with Brown Spots
Unfortunately I don't think my camera has any better settings to get a closer image. But I did make some more observations, and discovered similar looking spots on my E.chamaecereus. The brown spots, appear round and slightly dried and are located mainly right around the area where the spines come o...

Help with Brown Spots
Does anyone know what could be causing the brown spots located around the glochids of my O.microdasys? I first noticed them a week or two ago, and they seem to slowly be getting larger. What could be causing this?

Re: 4 New Cacti Need ID
Where on the plants do the flower buds form, and what should they look like so I can tell if I have any? Also, is there anything that is necessary or that I can do for the cacti to flower?

Re: 4 New Cacti Need ID
Thanks for all the great help! Since I'm pretty new to cacti trying to identify all of these seemed a daunting task, but you guys have helped a lot. Do any of these cacti require any sort of special care that is diffeent than other cacti, and when can I expect flowers from them?

First Flowers!
Last weekend I happened to find this Mammillaria hahniana at Home Depot, and since it had plenty of buds decided to buy it. Since I'm new to growing cacti I've never had one bloom before. Is there a certain time of day this species likes to flower and do the flowers open wider than this? Can't wait ...

Now that I think about it, the newspaper I was holding the cactus with did have a lot of orange ink. Or maybe something happened when I removed the red straw flowers from the top. As long as there's no lasting damage done, I'm perfectly fine with it.iann wrote:Looks like someone spilled dye on the plant.

Spines turning red?
I recently bought a Chamaelobivia hybrid, and today I set it out on the porch for a couple of hours. When I brought it inside I noticed certain spines and the part where the spines come out of had turned red. Sorry about the focus on the picture, my camera was acting up. Could the cactus have been s...

New to Growing Cacti: Soil & General Care Questions
My name is Ryan and I just recently became interested in growing Cacti. This weekend I bought a Parodia Magnifica and a Mammillaria Pilcayensis and have a few questions about soil to grow them in. Right now I'm thinking about using a 50/50 mix of Miracle-Grow Cacti Soil and Perlite. My questions are...
