Re: Rebutia krainziana, correct ID?

Now that you all pointed me in this direction, I was thinking it looked the most like Parodia fusca, formerly Notocactus fuscus? Any thoughts? Is this a synonym for Parodia nothorauschii?

Rebutia krainziana, correct ID?

I got this cactus labeled as Rebutia krainziana. Below are bloom pictures. It doesn't look like any other krainziana I've seen, is it? It's also blooming from the top, not the bottom like my other Rebutias. Also, it created a fuzzy large areole and blomed from that, instead of just popping out a bud...

Re: Keeping Delosperma in containers outdoors?

Thank you for the information, that article in particular was more interesting than I thought it would be and totally answered my questions. I don't know much about patent law, but I see why they do this all the time with plants...$$$. I hope someone cares enough to do the paperwork and write it up ...

Re: Keeping Delosperma in containers outdoors?

I had read that too, that it is an unnamed species. Cool, I wonder when it will end up being named? How exactly do you trademark a name for something that is actually a species though? I'd obviously like it to do well, but I don't know when exactly I'll be moving and it will probably be very last mi...

Keeping Delosperma in containers outdoors?

I bought a large clump of Delosperma 'P001s'/'Fire Spinner' at a garden center the other day and had a few questions about keeping it over the winter outdoors in zone 6b. This one has a growing zone range of zones 5-10. I am moving by 2013 and want to be able to take this guy with me. Can I keep it ...

Re: Ranty whiney complaint.

Good to know that people here have overall been reliable. I'm new here and just starting my collection so I haven't traded with anyone yet, my experiences have been elsewhere. I am also a member of another forum that has a questionable traders list. I don't find it drastic only because a mod will at...

Re: Ranty whiney complaint.

I totally agree with you here. I love trading, it's a great way to increase your collection and contribute to someone else's for very cheap. I've made some great trades and made a few friends that way too. However, I've experienced very similar to what you were mentioning about bad traders or bad co...

Re: Hi from NY!

Hi Harald! Thanks for the welcome and all the information. I am going to have to search for a place to put the cacti outside this summer as I only have 1/2 day am or pm sun or all day sun, no dappled shade. Keeping them inside last year wasn't optimal, I only have 2 blooming out of maybe 10. I don't...

Re: Hi from NY!

Thanks for the welcome hoteidoc! I'm in a similar zone to yours so I'd be interested in what your growing and where. Do you grow most of your collection indoors over the winter, or do you grow more cold tolerant species?

Re: Hi from NY!

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I look forward to learning from you all. @daiv Yes, there's a lot of crossover with plant growers! It seems like one thing leads to another. I've always liked cacti, but I guess was preoccupied with other things and honestly didn't realize I could grow them wel...

Hi from NY!

Hi all! I've been growing orchids and carnivorous plants for about 5 years now but just started with cacti and succulents about a year ago. I'm growing in New York state, a little ways north of the city. I have mostly Gymnocalycium, Lithops and Stapeliads right now, but am working on expanding that!...

Re: Is an ID possible for this tiny cactus?

Thanks Erallie. It doesn't look like any Gymnocalycium species on the ID sites to me, so thank you for your input. I'm just glad to at least have a genus so I can look up cultural recommendations, better than nothing! Hopefully it'll flower soon and that'll help. If not I guess I'll repost in a year...

Re: Is an ID possible for this tiny cactus?

Thanks for the quick reply! Absolutely will post with a flower pic, wasn't sure if that would help or if I had to wait for it to grow up a bit. One of it's neighbors in the tray had an open pink colored flower, not pale or dark, kind of a medium saturation of pink.

Is an ID possible for this tiny cactus?

Hi all! I picked up this baby of a cactus (1 inch pot?) from a local garden center. It's from Arizona East distributors. I e-mailed them about an ID, but I'm not sure they'll know or put me in contact with the grower who does. Can you guys help? Thanks for looking. http://i1203.photobucket.com/album...

Thanks again. You've been a huge help. I'm glad it's an easy species then, we'll see how it goes!
