Re: Some Cacti Glow under Black Light

You are right, that is a great web page. My guess is that he has filters on the camera and was using some very powerful UV light source. When I took the glowing cactus picture it was with an LED long wave UV flashlight and a pocket digital camera. I took the pictures at night with almost no moon. Th...

Re: Some Cacti Glow under Black Light

Hi, I checked the other cactus I have and the only others to glow were the Astrophytem (attached), and then only on a few of the freshest areole (not the old ones), and a little glow on a Leuchtenbergia. Also not all the Aerocarpus glowed like the ones in the pictures. I have heard about the bees an...

Some Cacti Glow under Black Light

This is something new to me. I took my black light out tonight and shined it on the cactus and the Aerocarpus glowed green. Several others also glowed to a lesser extent but these just popped out at me. I have never read about this before and thought it was cool. I took the pictures below to share w...

Has my dancing cactus got Rot??

I bought a few Trichocereus peruvianus seedling last summer. All were about as big as a finger, some thicker some thinner. This one grew at the top but not at the bottom. It laid over in the pot so I tried turning it around and it followed the sun over and laid down on the other side =D> . I thought...

Re: Mislabeled Cacti needs Id

Thanks Daiv for the names. I really missed the pilosocereus pachycladus. I've never had one before and I sure hope the turn as blue as the ones on line! On calling the to other tall ones Trichocereus brigesii, they have very different spines, with one having the random 3+ inch spines and the other w...

Mislabeled Cacti needs Id

Hi, I got this collection of cactus from the hardware store and the label calls them all “apple cactus” which I think is off. I have done some looking at pictures on the internet and I think (really guessing here) they are (listed by the top picture names): top A – Trichocereus peruvianus (it has hu...

Sulcorebutia found rotting leading to surgery, now what?

I noticed my Sulcorebutia rauschii starting to rot along one side today. As this is my replacement for an earlier one that rotted, I remembered what I was told I SHULD have done last time and got to work. I uprooted the plant and found that the roots were in great shape; it was just the side that wa...

The Adenium flowered (and got fatter). I hope these pictures help identify the type. The flower is about 1 inch across. Jerry

Are there different types of baby toes?

Hi, I got the larger potted plant at the hardware store last fall and the other at a plant show in the unmarked bargain rack. I thought they were the same plants when I got the second one. They look the same in everything but size. Is this just a variation baby toes or are they different species and...

Re: NOID Stapelia

Here is a picture of the Stapelia grandiflora (or so it's labled). It's not the best smelling of flowers. You can see 2 flies that are looking to find something dead. Hope this helps. Jerry

Re: It’s an Adenium, but what type?

I got the plant at the Fullerton Arboretum spring plant extravaganza (or something like that). There were several booths selling various Adeniums that were large, named and expensive. I found one booth were they had seedlings along with the larger plants, but when I asked what the seedlings were, sh...
