Hi & Welcome
The cutting you're trying to root is Euphorbia. Just stick it in the ground and forget about it. No need to wait for it to callous. Just dont water it for a few weeks and it should be fine.

I'm no expert yet but I think you should leave them in the bag for the winter. If you do take them out keep them moist for at least another few months. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chip in and help you out. I will keep on following your post as I'm on my first lot of seedlings too. Grow...

Thanks Tony. I Have some austro cuttings rooting now, and I have alot of grusonii seeds which I seem to be able to grow pretty well. So far all seed experiments on them led to 99% germination rate. Gonna start some of them later today for graft practise. :)

If you ask people around here about dragon fruit they get that blank funny look followed by complete and utter stupid remarks. Even had someone tell me there's no such thing. As in the initial post being in SA leads to some interesting scenarios when trying to find things. :?

Update from this morning. :D I have ordered some Hylocereus Undatus seeds which should arrive within the week. Largest is 30 seeds per packet so I hope all of them will be viable. Anyone got any information as to how quick they grow from seeds. Special care etc?

No Pereskiopsis for grafting Austrocylindropuntia alternate?

Being in South Africa leads to some problems when it comes to ALOT of things. One of those is the unavailabilty of Pereskiopsis for grafting. I have some Austrocylindropuntia Verschaffeltii plants and they grow like weeds. Will they be a suitable replacement...any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies so far :) Just one other thing... Is cuttings and/or pups from a plant basically the same plant? Will you be able to pollinate in such a way? I'm referring specifically to a mamm magnimamma and stenocactus hastatus. The mamm have never produced any fruit but has quite a few pu...

Self fertile / sterile question.

If a cacti is self sterile does that mean no fruit will form when 2 flowers on one plant is cross pollinated?
