Hi & Welcome
The cutting you're trying to root is Euphorbia. Just stick it in the ground and forget about it. No need to wait for it to callous. Just dont water it for a few weeks and it should be fine.

I'm no expert yet but I think you should leave them in the bag for the winter. If you do take them out keep them moist for at least another few months. No Pereskiopsis for grafting Austrocylindropuntia alternate?
Being in South Africa leads to some problems when it comes to ALOT of things. One of those is the unavailabilty of Pereskiopsis for grafting. I have some Austrocylindropuntia Verschaffeltii plants and they grow like weeds. Will they be a suitable replacement...any ideas will be appreciated.

Self fertile / sterile question.
If a cacti is self sterile does that mean no fruit will form when 2 flowers on one plant is cross pollinated?
