In the past I've had four snakes, a few tortoises and tarantulas, and a colony of Emperor scorpions. And some lizards, too, including a Savannah monitor and an iguana. Lovebirds, parakeets, finches...funny thing is, my favorite is dogs.

Don't know if they have fluffy ones; I've always taken Godzilla to be a reptile, or maybe an amphibian. Wonder what the customs tax on that would be?

Well, at least with age, comes wisdom and maturity. I've also noticed that time seems to go by faster than when I was a kid, and I like to nap more.:sleepy2:

I've never ordered from either, but I've never had a plant shipped through the mail.

Not really bad, necessarily, just that I think my life is going to change somehow the second I turn 30.

Raised Black Spots?

Well, I've had my Echinopsis a week now, and the good news is I think I just noticed a flower bud developing. Bad news is, I also noticed that there are quite a few small, raised, hard black spots on the top of the cactus. They are not oozing. I can't give a pic at this point because the only camera...

I don't have any seeds, but I did see some for sale on mesagarden.com that match the species you're looking for.

Unfortunately, I only have radiator-style heaters in my apartment. They work well, except that they dry the air horribly. Plus the windows have terrible drafts, and it can get -40 here with the windchill. Still, with the cactus needing to go into dormancy, that might not be the end of the world. I d...

Hi. I hope this isn't rude, but I was wondering what species you have there in the fourth pic, right in the background, to the upper-right of the specimen in question? It's a dead-ringer for a cactus I'm trying to ID. Thank you.

Found a few setups that look like cheesoid's link, but they are smaller and expensive. One I found cost over $400. The system was designed so that you could buy up to ten of them and link them together. And like tudedude said, I would hate having to replace such things when they burn out.

The Coming Winter

I know that it's still a number of months before winter hits, but I want to be well prepared for growing my cactus when the time comes. The problem is that winters are pretty harsh here and I live in an apartment. I do have a south-facing window, so that might help a little, except that half the tim...

Echinopsis Sighting?

Hello there. I have a cactus that I bought at a local nursery, and I was wondering if anyone here could help in identifying it? I'm really thinking along the lines of the genus Echinopsis. The cactus is somewhat large, about the size of a grapefruit, and has yellow fuzz and long, sometimes curved, s...
