Mesa Garden

Hey guys Just wanted to quiz you on Mesa Garden I sent an order way before christmas...and my order was sent in two parts. I have been sent non-CITES listed seeds, but the CITES-regulated seeds were awaiting some paperwork which I was told would take a few weeks. I have sent numerous emails and hear...

As far as I know Weingartia is now classed synonymously under Rebutia.

Nethertheless both Genera are under the Cactaceae family!

Family; Cactaceae, Subfamily: Cactoideae

Rebutia is under the Trichocereeae tribe

1 is def M. hahniana

No2 i think is M. ignota (also syn. M. albianata) as it has central spines with short brassy tips.

I'd just see how things go. If you're worried then get a thermometer and check the temp in the windowsill, if the temp drops below 5 celcius (41 f) then consider moving them maybe. Make sure you water them as little as possible though over the winter. If you have dry heat from radiators this will dr...

If it gets too cold buy some scalfs and cleverly fitted gloves to wrap them up (!) No seriously, they should be find kept indoors over winter. It depends how cold its gonna get in a window sil but i assume you will have some form of central heating in your apartment? Unless you yourself want to free...

I rinse my seeds in a cup of warm water to gently clean them, strain them through a piece of tissue paper and leave them to dry naturally. Works well i find.

If it were me, I would cut of the green healthy looking pad, and root it. Opuntia root very easily and quickly.

Keep the original plant as it should shoot off again!

Hmm they are in the spare bedroom(s) at the moment, but I have a large collection of around 30 or so, and ive just planted lots of seed so i'm thinking ahead. Im thinking more of it been a home for them all year round. Clearly some species will not tolerate the coldm so it would be on a plant by pla...

You will not be able to "root" this, it is a mutant form and lacks chlorophyll!

The only way to save it would be to graft it onto another stock.
