Thanks Tumamoc. There are some plants in my neighbors' yards that have produced some fruit.

Volunteer seedlings in Tucson

Hi gang,
I have a few different species volunteering in my yard...most I have identified but I'm not sure about this one. Any ideas? I thought maybe Peniocereus, but the spines look too large and yellow based on photos I was able to find. Maybe Pachycereus marginatus? Thanks in advance.

Re: random gift of succulents, what kind are they?help ID pl

You've got 2 Aloe juvenna, one Haworthia (coarctata?), one Agave victoriae-reginae, one Agave americana, and a few other things others have mentioned :)

L. williamsii?

Hi all, I've looked at the Lophophora guide at the top, and am still uncertain. The two photos below are: 1) my plant, clearly pink flower and sort-of defined ribs; 2) other plants from the same source, including two closed but clearly pink flowers, but plants with less-defined ribs. Seems like ribs...

Re: Need an agave(?) ID

It happens sometimes. Usually it immediately precedes the main flowering event, but not always (obviously!). It's not A. neomexicana - looks like A. havardiana from here.

Re: two Agaves

1 is probably A. parryi.
2 is a cool plant that nobody has identified with certainty...I've been calling mine A. ghiesbreghtii, but YMMV. If I remember correctly, they were originally distributed by Altman's with a generic "agave" label.

Put 'em in the ground! :)

Looks like Agave lophantha to me. Lucky...usually the flower stalks fall over!

I know Greg Starr has some as well, maybe not listed on his website, but if you give him a call...

The bee thing is a myth anyway. Mass paranoia doesn't make something true!

Re: White flies!

It's a whitefly...using imidacloprid will work, if you're not opposed to that.

Re: Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.

It looks healthy to me...it doesn't have much in the way of roots because it was an offset from a larger plant (the thick part in the middle of the roots is what's left of the rhizome). I wouldn't bother removing any leaves; they're just a little soft from being dehydrated. I'd pot it up and wait ti...
