Grass in outdoor cactus beds
I have a big big problem, up here in Western Washington... My outdoor cactus beds are constantly being overrun with quackgrass overrunning cactus beds. Mostly Opuntiads, but also some Echinocereus and semps. Will herbicides designed to target weedy grasses such as GrassBGone be safe to destroy grass...

Leuchtembergia question
Have a large one of these that came to be broken off at ground level on its way home from the nursery. 2 questions:
1. Will it regrow from the taproot?
2. Will the large broken off top root?
Thanks.

Acid for Seed Treatment
OK, just what kind and concentration of acid is to be used for treating seeds of Opuntia, Echinocactus poly. parryi, and xeranthemoides, and Pediocactus simpsonii? Also seeking soak time. Thanks in advance

Grafting Outdoor Cacti
Has anyone considered grafting cold-hardy but wet-sensitive "ball" cacti (Echinocactus polycephalus, Glandulicactus uncinatus, etc) onto a durable, cold-and-wet tolerant scion like an Echinocereus species, where it would not turn to mush when looked at?
Thanks

Re: Favorite Echinocereus?
Well if I had to pick just one it would be E. triglochidiatus v. gonacanthus. It's big, It's cold hardy, and it's big red flowers are just beautiful. I have one by my front door step and people just can't believe it stays outside year round! This...I have grown these outside here in wet, cold Weste...

The small pad cutting I snitched has made it all the way through our infamously wet winter here near Seattle...think it's a keeper
Made 3 LARGE new pads and 3 flowers last summer too...

Re: Opuntia englemanii in S Utah?
Don't think chlorotica...pads elongated, and no trunk, growing along the ground and growing upward from the ground about 4-5 pads high. Was growing on the edge of a rangeland off of I-15 in the hills between St George and Cedar City, nowhere near any signs of buildings. Took a pad and rooted it, wil...

Opuntia englemanii in S Utah?
Hi...
I saw a quite large upright Opuntia about 40 miles north of the Virgin River canyon. Large pads, stacking up about 3-4 feet high, dark yellow/orange center flowers.
Is this englemanii, or something else?
thanks...
