Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

Hi, While doing your tests, plug your variables (f-stop, lens focal length, focus length) into this handy calculator. It may help explain DOF related focus issues. http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/dof-calculator.htm The closer you get, the shallower the DOF. Sometimes it pays to just backu...

Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

To help us help you ... post the EXIF info from the original image plus the settings you used for the file resize.

Did your resized JPG look different/better before you posted it to CG?

All of this info will help dissect your process and maybe see something to suggest.

Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

In ACDSee 7, locate your image in view, develop as needed, save the developed image, change to "View" screen. Select image, Select File | Export from the top menus. Follow the dialog box for file format, size, destination location, etc. For web, I usually use JPG, 1500 x 1000 for 3x2 ratio...

Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

Now that you have a lot to think about, here is something you should try since I know you have the equipment (laptop, tripod, camera) to easily put it together. It has been an immense help to me and can be a powerful learning tool as well. 1) Load your laptop up with Canon's DPP and EOS Utility soft...

Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

One more comment on plant photography come to mind. I use a Canon 100 macro lens for most of my true macro work but when photographing larger subjects such as 6" and larger pots, I find it easier to work with a good mid-range zoom lens. I use either Canon's kit 17-85 kit lens or 24-70 f4.0L. It...

Re: Do I need to buy a Full Frame Camera?

I have a DSLR Canon 2Ti or something, with a 60mm macro and the sharpness is just not there, even though I have it on the highest sharpness setting. Is there better software? or is having a bigger frame the only answer..... Hi Greg, Your 2Ti and 60mm macro is capable of producing images of very hig...

Re: All are welcome - please stop by and say Hi!

Thank you for your comments, Dave. I personally agree with all you have to say about presentation of plants. The shows here in the US and especially in California have been greatly influenced and/or inspired by the success of showmen, collectors and growers having a strong artistic or bonsai backgro...

Re: Who will be at the InterCity show?

There will be a bus load from CCCSS on Sat - over 50 of us. Look for CCCSS shirts or logos ... ask any of them to point me out.

Same instructions apply to any CG visitors ... I know you are out there.

Re: peterb's 2014

Just catching up on this thread ... your "something" johnsonii is most likely Weberbauercereus johnsonii. Eventually it will branch and flower like this one that flowered for me the first time this year. From MG 132.13 seed sown 3/1/96. c7882_W_johnsonii.jpg The odd O. basilaris may be the...

Re: Should we keep up the monthly photo Contests?

Regardless of any final decision, I also would like to give large thanks to JohnC and Jens for their continuing efforts. If either of you are ever in the neighborhood, that would include a bit of water, grain and hops as well :) I have enjoyed the photo contest, not so much from a photographers view...

Re: Dorm Room Propagation

You don't mention what you are growing but as others have mentioned, seeds will germinate any time you can provide proper conditions for that seed. I live just south of you in Nipomo and spent Jan 3 filling my propagator with cacti, succulents, and some ornamentals as well. I start with 75-80F heat ...
