Yep, Bunnings indeed!! I have 3 of them. Varying sizes from the 4? shelf to the smaller 2 shelf. The key to them is to superglue the joints as you go along. Also if you can, use rope to secure them to the ground. I tied mine down from the top plastic bit, then used rope and tent pegs to stablize the...

Mate looks like we have the same greenhouse! Yeah in Melbourne we are getting into a very cold winter. It's sunny today, buy has been raining and freezing for the best part of a month. I reckon i'm hitting 25 in there. Probably needs a clean as well, but the light is somewhat filtered as it comes th...

Questions on Dormancy period for cacti
Hi all, Here in the Southern part of the globe we have moved into our winter period. I now have my plants in my greenhouses full time. The greenhouses are facing the sun. I haven't watered them since late april so they should be fully dry. In the greenhouses the temperature can rise during the day. ...

Hi, In Melbourne our temps are varying a bit too. Been down to the low teens during the day, and it's back up to the mid 20's for the rest of the week! During winter I keep mu plants in 3 small green houses with plenty of ventilation. Last year I had to repot quite a few plants due to my first attem...

Gravel is a personal choice. I use larger red stones (about an inch in diameter) at the bottom of my pots. I buy premixed cactus soil from Collectors Corner. From what I can see it contains crushed gravel, fine stones, perlite and a potting mix. They use it on their larger display plants. My plants ...

Just makes me wonder how to manage the watering down here with day/nighttime temperatures warying wildly. On a normal winters day I'll be looking at a variation between around 0C at night but creeping into mid to high teens (15C to 18C) during the day and the occational day when it creeps up above ...

All mine are out doors either in the open sun, or in a small green house minus the walls. I used to do the same as you and make sure no bugs were on them, but I gave up! I removed a couple of caterpillars from my Pasacanas a couple of days ago, and sliders seem to love building webs on them too! See...

Hi, It's good to have a fellow Australian on the forum as well. I'm in Melbourne (south of Sydney) and we have copped massive amounts of rain over this summer. We also copped the tail end of the cyclone which dumped yet more rain on an already soaked state. I like the barrell set up you have there. ...

Wow! Absolutely stunning! Thank you so much for those pics. I'll P.M you later on. I'd love to see anymore you have. I maybe a little bias, but they are - in my opinion- one I'd the most stunning cactus species. They way they are shaped and grow are simply amazing! There seems to be quite a lot I'd ...

The weather is not as dry as the Atacama Desert. This photo was taken near the town of S. Pedro de Atacama. It was winter. At night temperature was - 10 ° C. On the day we wore T-shirt. http://www.cactuscenterclub.com/phpBB2/userpix/18_Echinopsis_atacamensis_06_1.jpg Vicent I wish mine were that ta...

You mean Trichocereus pasacana? I know that is considered as a subspecies of atacamensis, but I don't think they technically grow in the Atacama desert. The name might be due to the type being found in the Atacama province of Chile (I didn't look it up so it may not be where the type was actually f...

Thankyou so much for the info. I guess that's why they are slower growing here, as the heat (at the moment - we're having a terrible summer) isn't as intense or bright. My largest is only 10 inches and is apparently 9 years old. When i retire i plan on visiting that area and going to see this beauti...

Question on desert temperatures around the world.
Hi all, I've been doing some reading about the varying climates that our green friends live in. I have been trying to find out what sort of temperature range is the best for my cactus collection. A large portion of my collection come from the Southern American region. Ive tried to find out if the de...
