We found these cacti in extreme southern Arizona. On the right is Coryphantha recurvata. What is that on the left?

Thanks, I'd say the clump was less then 2' across, heads are tennis ball-sized.

Plant is a little over a foot tall, some were 2x and 3x as tall.

Cholla hybrid?
We found some unusual Chollas today at Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, and suspect C. echinocarpa × C. leptocaulis. There were a fair number of these little guys around, none more than about 0.5m tall. C. ramosissima and C. ×deserta were also found in the area. Anyone care to weigh in on this suspect...

We frequently see plants of the possible "boyce-thompsonii" persuasion among mixed E. bonkerae/E. engelmannii populations. Which seems right in line with hybrid status, since they generally do look intermediate between those two species. For the record, E. bonkerae is quite common througho...
