Or maybe E. curvispina? It looks a lot like the one in the fourth picture down. What's the history of Eriosyce? There seem to be a lot of different cacti folded into the genus and I haven't been able to find out what was in the unlumped Eriosyce. Since I won't know what it is until it flowers again ...

Dark-skinned charcoal-spined Eriosyce (?)

I was wondering whether to post this here or in the Sick Cacti section, but since I know roughly what to do with the cactus the topic went here. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of Eriosyce, but I don't know which one or which genus it used to be in, if any. If it's one of the original Eriosyce specie...

How clean do the roots need to be before repotting? I usually get to the stage where the Ferocactus is, with just a little bit of peat clinging to the root ends and wedged into various junctions.

Small B&Q cactus with long stronge tortoiseshell spines

Strong spines (and painfully sharp too). I don't know how that 'e' got in there. I'd like to know what this one is just in case it has any special care requirements. I can see what I think are the 'tells' for the genus (the symmetrical curved-back radial spines, the long central spine, the areole s...

Yup, just noticed the wattage on that one. At least it'd be cheap to run? :P Guess I'll be spending some time wandering the aisles of the local hardware stores. Edit: I've taken some figures from the artificial light article to use as a baseline, although that much wattage won't be necessary due to ...

Heating won't be a problem, but artificial lighting hasn't been worked out yet since there's enough light right now. There's a 225-LED light being sold on Ebay cheaply (here and here), but I'm suspicious of just how cheap that is.

Is it too late in the year to sow in Britain?

I've recently been bitten by the cactus bug and would like to try growing a couple. I might be able to get some started, but they'd still be very small by the time winter comes round and I'm worried that they either won't survive the winter shutdown or won't have the conditions they need to carry on...
