No animals were harmed in the making of this feature.

The cat (Carmelita from the Warren Zevon song) was free to go any time she pleased.

Spring has Sprung (in the Southern Hemisphere)

Well they're not cacti but thought this would do for my return to the forum after a long absence. Naturally half rotted out willow trunk purchased from a local guy who collects and sells funky tree stumps for gardens, rustic furniture and so on. Some strategic use of chunks of osmunda, the odd nail ...

This is only my second attempt. As you say you can lower the frequency of photos once the flower is almost fully open. Software, remote control and a dedicated camera and computer are the way to go but is a significant investment. I have my previous laptop doing nothing so that eases the pain a bit....

Flowers over the last few months

Some pics of flowers that have bloomed over the last few months of the Lima summer. Some help with the species would be nice, especially the one with the magenta flower and the cliesto with the white flowers. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2794_DSC_0394_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/forum...

San Pedro Video

Video I made a few months ago of San Pedro blooming. Composed of 29 photos taken over about three hours. The camera (a Nikon D90) was on a tripod but no software so involved me getting up every 5-10 minutes to take a picture. Next step is to buy another camera and set it up with my old laptop and th...

Absolutely Stunning: Cleistocactus winteri in Flower

Known as monkey tail for obvious reasons The first pic was taken a couple of months ago when I first got the plant. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2794_DSC_0285_2.jpg It has been very happy in its new home and it looks like I have been getting the watering just right as it is full of buds, ...

Thanks for that Peter. Not sure yet which I find more interesting: Bromeliads of Cacti.

Do you collect them both as well?

Bromeliads and Orchids and some more Remodelling

I know they are not cacti (got some flowers coming so look out for more posts) but thought some of you might be interested. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2794_14052011107_1.jpg Orchids and bromliad. No idea the species but quite nice flowers. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2794_15...

Christos, Oroyas probably prefer high altitudes but this one was planted well over 5 month ago and has just flowered so these are not buds that were on it when collected. In Lima I am only about 50m above sea level. What is my secret? Don't. Lots of sun I guess. Vlani The Neoraimundia are from half ...

How's it hanging? Not bad old fruit.

Some new addition to the collection. Couple of hanging species. No idea what they are called as lost the bit of paper from Oscar. I plan to do quality photographs of my whole collection and catalogue them properly. (Oscar even has all the prices but I am not sure I want to know that) http://www.cact...

Peruvian Specials

Pretty excited about this as my Neoraimundia ]arequipensis and my Oroya peruvianus (a rare one with white spines) are flowering :D These have flowered after being in the garden about 4 months now so mean they are bedded in and happy. Very satisfying. Oscar is impressed with by green fingers. His Oro...

Lima Sunlight

Hi Peter, The apartment faces slighty to the south west. Lima is only 1000km south of the Equator so when the coastal fog clears for the four to five summer months you get sun pretty much all day from overhead and its in the high 20s to low 30s (you are going to have to work out what that is in Fare...

Penthouse Prickles

Its been a while since I have posted anything but be prepared for a veritable flood of photos both in the wild and from my mostly completed terrace. For those that don't know I live on the six floor of an apartment block in Lima, Peru and am fortunate enough (it was why I bought the apartment) to ha...

Old age I reckon. Plenty of nice healthy ones there. New small plants as well.

Lots of fruit on them at the moment too. Will get some pics and man are they spikey.
