Re: Ralf's cold hardy cacti - season 2015

Sorry, I've absolutely forgot to update this topic this season. Meanwhile the usual winter protection is installed a long time ago and the plants have their winter rest. Retrospectively to the past season the amount of flowers was somewhat lesser than the year before. Anyway I've really enjoyed the ...

Sorry graffiti for my late response of your question. Actually it is an white background. It only appears gray because it shaded itself. The plants which I photograph are some inches in front of the background. I've still some pictures of the past season. 108_Epithelantha_bokei.JPG 109_Epithelantha_...

Re: Ralf's collection - update 07/12/2015

Thanks, folks! Sorry for my late response. :-( George, the pilcayensis is about 15 cm (5.9 inch) high. The plant is grown from seed, sown in 2002. The first flowers appear after ~ 5 years. Some more pictures from May and June. 60_Echinocereus_aguirrei.JPG 61_Echinocereus_aguirrei.JPG 62_Escobaria_mi...

Re: Arizona and Utah 2015

The Mam is only sunburned. On another location we've found only green ones on this day. Unfortunately at this place we've seen only this single one. Again some Escobaria vivipara var. bisbeeana . Even with an extra portion of fertilizer. 31_Escobaria_vivipara_var._bisbeeana.JPG 32_Escobaria_vivipara...

Arizona and Utah 2015

In April I stayed for about 3 weeks in Arizona at our friend John Durham. He's one of the guys who was involved in creating the new TCSS Field Guide to Cactus and Other Succulents in Arizona. Together with him we took some field trips and he showed me amazing places and plants I've never seen in hab...

Re: Ralf's collection - update 05/24/2015

Thanks guys! Yes indeed a lot plants show more flowers than in the past years. There are also many first timers and plants they didn't flower for a long time show its flowers again. I'm wonder what's the reason of that. Some more pics a couple days ago. 35_Echinocereus_pentalophus_ssp._leonensis.JPG...

Re: Ralf's collection - update 05/16/2015

Actually there's no secret to grow them with some success. I keep the most plants of them in 2x2x2.4 in (5x5x6 cm) small pots with complete minerally soil. The pot size also depends on the expected plant size and their root size. Plants with bigger tap roots grow in somewhat bigger and deeper pots. ...

Re: Ralf's collection - update 04/06/2015

I really believe that cactus flowers can make someone happy! Unfortunately I'll missing a lot flowers in the upcoming weeks because I'm in Arizona again. On the other hand if I'm in Arizona I'll be happy every second. 15_Turbinicarpus_pseudopectinatus.JPG 16_Turbinicarpus_pseudopectinatus.JPG 17_Tur...

Re: A small collection 2015

I really like your choice of the new pots. It looks simply gorgeous.
The plants appear much more attractive in that kind of ceramic pots.
They are readdy for a plant show.
I guess that will be the next step what I have to do. ;-)
