Beautifully grown plants Vicent! The Islaya lindleyi looks a little bit like one I bought from Haage under the name I. flavida KK 563 http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2513_Eriosyce_islayensis_KK563_I_flavida_230609_Blte_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2513_Eriosyce_islayensis__I...

I`m sorry no, it was not Pyrrhocactus but Neoporteria nidus of corse. According to F. Ritter there are: Np. nidus var. nidus : without or almost without taproot Np. nidus var. gerocephala: yellowish taproot Np. muticolor: short taproot So which one is this?-it´s short and yellowish :? http://www.cac...

Hello Ian These two might be in the range of variation of Eriosyce senilis ssp. senilis. The body varies acording to the Katterman book from globular to elongated and the flower lengths also varies from 5-7 cm. all that is missing for senilis is the taproot indeed. But on the other hand Ritter did d...

Thanks Dave , I´ll give felt a try. the method Ralf used in his latest postings (a U-shaped, folded white paper) is easy to install and looks good too I think. Maybe it should even look better when combined with a lighly coloured cardboard like Christer uses it. I also found it important to use dire...

Hi Christer those are magnificent photographs (of magnificent little plants). What colour is the background you have been using? white ? blue ? black? i have been using a piece of blue cloth lately, but it wrinkles too much i thought. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2513_2010_April_21_013_1....

Katterman described three varieties of E. senilis: v. senilis with wavy and interlacing spines. Flowers long with scant wool on outer flower tube. v. elquiensis with +/- wavy spines but prominent central spine, flowers shorter with more wool than v. senilis and sometimes bristles on flower tube. v. ...

Hello Vicent Those Thelocephala should have been growing in the middle of the dirt road for years, shouldn´t they? It is incredible that they didn´t get hurt by the cars that rolled over them! I wouldn´t call myself an expert on Eriosyce though since I´ve only been growing them for about three years...

Eriosyce islayensis seems to have good water intake with its fibrous roots. It its surviving in the very dry coastal atacama desert of nouthern peru and doesnt seem to store the humidity it gets through the daily garua fog in a taproot. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2513_Eriosyce_islayensi...

Katterman put Thelocephala malleolata into Eriosyce krausii. There is a population near Chanaral on Pan de Azucar (FK 127). Hoffmann and Walter split Eriosyce malleolata off the krausii group. The location of E. malleolata is given as: Norte de Chanaral This a malleolata that I just got last jear, i...

Hello Vicent
Nice wooly body!
Has the plant open its flowers already?
If it does, could you photograph it sideways for the wool and bristles to be seen more clearly ?
Is it grafted or on its own roots?

There is quite some variation in Eriosyce seedlings as far as I can say from my short sowing experience dating back to only 2008 :) Here are some seeds from Spiniflores in Chile and some habitat seed from a friend who went there. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/2513_2010_April_19_014_1.jpg h...

Quote: Here two Eriosyce with fine spines that seem to me chilensis, but I'm not sure. Hi Vicent These might be varieties of E. heinrichiana (ssp intermedia v. intermedia), the one with the greener epidermis could olso match E. heinrichiana ssp. simulans - but has very short spines for simulans.
