well, not exactly. I posted a pic of it with a whole bunch of other cacti that I was trying to get indentified, but no one responded to that one. So then I got some more info about it, and put it in it's own topic so it would get some more attention :)

Juvenile shoots can look like that, the big, flat stems appear later.
No, the mature plant has all rounded stems, no flat ones whatsoever

Mystery cactus

Hi everyone, My neighbor has this cactus that she would like to have indentified. I don't have a pic of the whole thing but I do have a pic of a cutting she gave me. It has long (2 feet long at least), thin, round, trailing stems. In spring, it gets huge red flowers, not sure exactly how many inches...

How can I fix these severely etioliated cacti?

Both of these cacti where given to me by friends. The first picture is of some sort of Opuntia, which I repotted the moment I got it, the pot was so small. As you can see, this one never got enough light. The second one I don't know what it is, but I know it comes from Tuscon, AZ. It was pretty much...

Please ID this flowering cactus

Can you indentify this cactus? It's about 2.5-3.0 inches tall and has a circumference of approximately 11 inches. There are 5 flower buds emerging at the top, and the flowers are about 1.5-2.0 inches across and bright lemon-yellow with a very dark reddish pink stamen. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum...

HELP! questions about sterilizing

I just tried my hand at sowing cactus seed. A few are sprouting but there seems to be a fungus coming in, but I caught it while it's still barely visible. The potting medium was not sterilized. Is there anything I can do to prevent the fungus from spreading while still keeping the seedlings alive? I...

allright, thanks ian.
so since miracle gro isnt too safe, tomato fertilizer would be my best alternative to cacti fertilizer? also could you tell me around around what ratios of potash, nitrogen, and phosphate i should ideally get for cacti?
Thanks

What about like bonemeal, could that work. Sounds safer than Miracle Gro to me.
