You guys talking about not being able to afford frankincense - it's pretty commonly sold in herb shops and even head shops as incense. Can be fairly reasonable - I've burned some at home over a red hot coal. It's an amazing smell and has been shown to have anti-depressant/anti-anxiety action. Very n...

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I lived in Phoenix for many years and can recognize a C. bigelovii skeleton pretty well. The answers peter came up with were about as close as I got from browsing cactiguide and other sites. I think if you know the region it's from then you can reasonably identif...

Cholla skeleton from Phoenix desert

Was wondering if anyone would recognize the species of cholla this skeleton came from. It's from the Phoenix desert and while I didn't have the presence of mind to take pictures of other living chollas around the area I know they were not Cylindropuntia bigelovii. I did take this other picture where...

When I first started, my obsession was my worst enemy (when I'd accidentally mess with the graft before it healed while looking at it) and also my best friend (because I kept doing more grafts) :) Wish you luck on your graft!

Cool, did the bending over of the main stem cause the branching in the middle? I've been wondering whether I should let mine bend over or keep them propped up. Yes when the stem bent over it started branching. I should take a picture now. It's embarassingly shaped at the moment (not that it wasn't ...

They are pretty incredible plants. It's so cool how there's some huge/old/very unique plant growing in such a stark setting. This plant reminds me of watching the old David Attenborough documentaries.

Funny I always wondered this too, if the seedlings need humidity and moisture to grow, then how do the other bigger cacti around them not rot with the high humidity and moisture?? Find a crack, or under a rock. Or under a bush that drips water in exactly the right spot. Buried under a quarter inch ...

You say it's got a yellow tint - wonder if it's the harmless common Leucocoprinus birnbaumii that grows commonly in pots: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/leucocoprinus_birnbaumii.html I get these quite often and they don't harm plants as far as I've ever seen/read. I hope at the least you have a compo...

I've bought a few cacti from pkauctiononlinethailand and it's been pretty reliable. There's the risk of customs but I've gotten some smoking deals too. Last ones I can think of were a 3-headed own-roots crested Astrophytum asterias nudum kikko and a A. asterias 'Hanazono' grafted onto this mysteriou...
