Have waited ten years for this to happen!

I had the original plant about ten years ago, along the way it was divided up and this is the biggest one (about four and a half foot), and I've always wanted one of them to flower but it's never happened until now! It has two other buds on it that should flower soon too. I think it's finally happy ...

Re: Planting an Agave outside in the UK?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I plan on planting it on a bit of a mound, firstly to help with drainage but also as it's in a large tub some of the growth is below the level of the crown. I plan on leaving it open during summer, then keeping it covered the rest of the year. I thought if I build w...

Planting an Agave outside in the UK?

Hi guys, I've got an Agave that's getting too big for the greenhouse (it's about 3 feet wide at the mo), and was thinking about actually planting it outside while it will still fits through the door :D Although that'll be a job in itself. It stays in the greenhouse all winter (unheated) and is fine,...

I went for mainly clay pots because quite often, especially when the soil is dry, something that size can be a bit top-heavy! I've read many debates on clay or plastic, with no clear cut winner on either side. Looks wise I think clay looks nice, and holds the heat better? But you're probably right, ...

Cheers Iann, maybe it's time to re-pot the parent! I'll give it a try. Do you think it still looks healthy though?
Mike.

Question about Mammillaria Elongata cutting?

There's nothing wrong with either of them (I hope!) but I was just curious as to why the cutting on the left, which was made from the one on the right a couple of years ago, has grown so differently? The cutting appears to have opened up more, and I don't think the original needs re-potting unless s...

Hi CF, I'm no expert but I have a greenhouse, the polycarbonate kind 6x6. I think the only successful way of heating a greenhouse for cacti is electric with a thermostat. I tried the parafin heaters but they're no good, and not as cheap to run as you're led to believe. My greenhouse is too far down ...

Hey LT, beautiful pictures! This might seem like a really stupid question but they're not ALL in the wild are they? They're truly impressive pics : )

Hi Awj, I'm not great at naming Cacti, but I think this is Cereus Peruvianus Monstrosus. I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm wrong :)

Bad news :x Whilst taking the cuttings Iann suggested I noticed what I think are the first signs of rot, and it was doing so well. Bits were just pulling out easily. So I've broken it up and will salvage what I can. What a kick in the teeth :( Not the first I've lost but I thought I'd brought this o...

I got it Tumamoc!
Nice selection Gallows, not bad for you buck either. I'd love to get some hardy outdoor Opuntias too, but there's a severe lack of places selling Cacti round here. Like Barracuda says, some pics would be good when you can

Hey Martin, how could we ever get bored???? Never. I get so envious when I see you guys being able to plant all your Cacti outside, I'd give my left arm to live somewhere I could do that! Maybe when I retire! :o Great pics.
