Re: Cat Litter...Don't Panic not the usual!
It took a bit of doing, but gritty in a big chunk kind of way. I'm going to drain it and see how it holds up to being dried out, since I am not planning on my plants being saturated in water for a week or more and if that happens I have probably more to worry about than if the mix is going to go to ...

Re: Cat Litter...Don't Panic not the usual!
Its not Catsan, I usually use that for my cats and actually it does break down quite a lot more than you would expect. Its this stuff... catlit.jpg Then a close up... catlitdry.jpg And this is it after a week in water... litinwater.jpg Still not degraded and I actually have a few 'spare' plants to r...

Re: Rotting
If its dry it should be safe to replant it. I would say that as its quite small, it will eventually out grow this and you wont be able to see it )

Cat Litter...Don't Panic not the usual!
So I am fairly well acquainted with the tesco lightweight low dust cat litter (other products are not available for this purpose  ) and usually order a couple of bags whilst doing the occasional online shop. However, the other day tesco sent me a substitute for the pink one and as it was actua...

Re: Snails and organic solutions
Tobacco in water kills them if they drink it but maybe if you added the tobacco to the beer (which they are attracted to) same results. I haven't wasted a beer to try yet Nicotine is highly toxic and is commonly used to fight pests in an 'organic' way.

Saved a bit of room I guess :(
Well, I don't know about the rest of the world but here in 'The Garden of England', we are experiencing some pretty unusual weather. We have had gale force winds constantly for about 4 days now and its caused a bit of grief. Not least the loss of about 800 6 month old seedlings :( #-o I opened the k...

Re: Well this is a surprise!!
Considering the slow walk out to the greenhouse thinking it would have been knocked over and lost the bud entirely its a very good surprise!!

Well this is a surprise!!
Having had torrential rain and storm force winds over the last 24 hours, I thought I had better check the plants. They are currently in a temporary cheap shelved plastic greenhouse, waiting for me to get the courage up to build the foundations for the big greenhouse, and it really took a battering. ...

Re: Can I get some info
A few questions in reply
1) What kind of cactus is it?
2) What do you mean by 'sprouted'? Are they seeds that have just sprouted?
3) If they are seeds, what are your growing conditions?
What happens next totally depends on what and how you are growing it/them!!

Re: Identification of a few small cacti
If you put the opuntia somewhere bright, it should grow new pads that are more along the lines of natural growth, then you can use those to make some new plants. Very easy to get hold of but much more satisfying to 'save'.

Here is a pic of my N. scopa. Bought from an experienced grower here in England, so I'm fairly confident of the name. They are similar but not quite the same. I would love to know what yours is though because its really lovely. DSCF0530.JPG Btw...my scopa's flowers are touch sensitive on the stamen!...
