Re: Showing plants, staging etc.
Sorry to be a little late to this. I have experience in this area. I know that the UK point of view on the "staging" aspect of showing plants differs somewhat from what we do in the US. What is missing from the CSSA guidelines (with which I agree) is the actual rule sheet for judging the p...

I agree with Tony and think the other is probably a sedum, one of the many named hybrids.

#3 is a Xerosicyos danguyi. It is a vine that grows in the thorn forest of southern Madagascar.
#1 might be a Tradescantia - are the leaves hairy? Hard to tell from the picture, but those little boat shaped leaves remind me of Tradescantia.

Re: HD incident
The name of the plant is Pachycereus marginatus, but don't be looking for big white blooms from this beauty. The nicest one I've seen was in a nursery in South Africa. Some have yellow and some red.

Re: Please help. White fluffy infection and brawnish spots
Just a note. the little bugs have a gestation period of 8 days. You may kill all of the active larvae and adults with a contact spray, but not the eggs. Every 8 days for three cycles will do the job, or the systemic way is the best. I have expert grower friends who will unpot such a plant, clean off...

Re: Award winning cactus
The rules are always written out regarding the "staging" value to be considered by the judges. It ranges from no value up to 25% of the value of the judge's consideration at the national CSSA Show & Sale. Including the 25% consideration, I've seen plenty of plants in platic pots on the...

Re: Award winning cactus
Tony is a very good shower of plants. His entries are always top quality. Award winning entries are subject to the competition available. If your plant is the best in the room, it will get a blue ribbon or a trophy. At another show, it might not get a sniff. There's no doubt that the process of show...

What about plants that have big roots down there, but we are not allowed to dig them up. Here's about 10 Pachypodium bispinosum growing underground, just a terrific bloom fest.
This nice Trichodiadema bulbosum has ameays been one of my favorites.
