Opuntia in outdoor pots

I have two opuntia that currently grow in my mini-greenhouse (O. macrocentra and C. imbricata), but they're starting to outgrow the shelf space available (as they do ). Since I know those two are tough as old boots, I'm planning to move them out of the greenhouse on a permanent basis, but I'd ...

I now have those in that need to come in, and have an LED array and a moderately warm room for them - so now, the question is... What do I do with them? Last year, all my cacti were left outside over winter (being rebutia et al, I (thankfully correctly!) reasoned they'd manage okay) so this is my fi...

I think the best heating method available to me is an extra thermal-retention layer in the enclosure, and something small burning underneath - I used some tea light candles during the colder nights last winter, which generate a surprising amount of heat when there's three of them burning for 4-5hrs ...

Winter list

I'm currently looking at which plants to bring in over winter (I have a small red and blue LED array presently, and can expand if needed), but am finding that clear, confirmed recommendations are about as easy to come across as leprechaun footprints! So far, the only ones that I've found "defin...

That's quite a find! Hope you enjoy and learn a few things too reading those documents. Even more interesting if you have located the property in your town. I intend to settle down and read them properly sometime in the near future :) If nothing else, I've already learnt a new word - 'messuage' bei...

I did consider that possibility, but I didn't think plumping up could nearly double the cactus' size!

That said, it'd explain the faster-than-expected "growth"

Cristates...

I could be wrong, but I thought crested cacti were supposed to be slower growers than their 'normal' counterparts? Mammillaria spinossisima cristate, before and after. These two pictures are less than three months apart - and yes, that is the same pot! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/cloud_1_...

I don't mean to sound unsporty but this was a fixed game, the referee was clearly for spain. In all fairness, some referees would have given a red for De Jong's high tackle on Alonso - he maybe got off lightly there. I'll grant he made that bad call a little before Spain's goal, but I think to say ...
