Re: Shipping plants internationally
I'm planning on bidding on an ebay cactus from Thailand today. If I get it I'm not paying for the darn waste of money papers again. [-( I'd rather risk losing it at customs than be ripped off another $15 or so for the papers. I've never even had a package arrive opened. Maybe the outside of the box ...

Re: I'm Moving Soon: How To Transport All My Cacti?
Thanks very much everyone for the replies and all the tips. :) I'm still nervous about the whole thing but I'll spend as much time as I can delicately preparing everyone for the big move. Also have 8 cats who I have to move as well. Apparently I can't say no to cat's or cacti when they wanna move in...

I'm Moving Soon: How To Transport All My Cacti?
So in Sept. I'm moving from NY to NJ. It's just about a 2 hour drive so I'm planning on transporting them all in the car. It may take more than one trip but I'm not trusting the "pod" to move them. I'm thinking of stuffing toilet paper all around their bases and then taping that down to ke...

Re: What Is This Hideous Horror On My Cacti?
I never did find out what was wrong with my babies, but here's what I did: Got Phyton-27. It's a systemic fungicide and bactericide. I got Dithane M-45 80% MANCOZEB FUNGICIDE which is a powder you mix with water and spray your plants with. I don't know which one did it but it seems to have stopped t...

They probably just don't like the euphorbia sap.cactiman wrote:I had a problem with them before and they seemed to leave my Euphorbias alone. could be they just prefer the others or didn’t get to them yet.

Re: What Is This Hideous Horror On My Cacti?
Not sure, but it doesn't look like insect damage. If not a fungus then perhaps chemical damage from neem oil or some other chemical that accidently got splattered on them. Thanks for the reply tudedude. It's definitely not chemical damage as I only used alcohol and then Neem oil spray and they bega...

What Is This Hideous Horror On My Cacti?
Approximately 6-8 weeks ago I noticed that some of cactus had something wrong. There was damage to the skin (pics below) and at first I thought it was scale due to the way the damage started with small specs. Well I searched for scale, mealy bugs, mites, thrips and I see absolutely nothing. I still ...

Re: Using Spines To Graft With (?)
I read on the net that you can use them and that they'll just eventually disappear inside the cactus. Then I read that it's not true. Well yesterday I used two spines just to pin down a scion so it didn't slip all over while I was taping it down. It worked perfectly, but I pushed the spines all the...

They're brilliant. :) -What do you have all of the seedlings temporarily sitting on after you cut their roots? Is that a piece of cut cactus? -How long did you leave the tape and spines attached? -Did you core out the growing tip in order to allow only the scion's to grow? Sorry I can't help. Just q...

I didn't know root cutting was common, but that explains why 4 out of 5 plants that I got this summer (from both Hungary and Thailand) had almost no roots. Here's a thread I made recently about a rootless euphorbia Abdelkuri I got. I reeeaaly prefer my plants to have roots when I get them. :? http:/...

I purchased almost all of my cacti through ebay. But the best seller I've ever bought from is Miles Anderson/ Miles2go. I just placed an email order on Sun 8/28 and received it on Thurs 9/1. I payed $62 for 11 cacti (6 Stenocereus griseus, 2 Myrtillocalycium's, 2 grafted and variegated Gymnocalycium...
