There is a short article in the journal of the British Cactus and Succulent Society - CactusWorld 2006, 24(4), 225 - which includes a photo of a large flowering plant together with a flower cross section. The flowers are described as being 2cm long (less than an inch) and are basically 2cm of norma...

update on the Haku jo for Phil_SK. it has 2 flower spikes about an inch long. One has the ?stigmas sticking out the end on the side. The flower spike that flowered at the start of this thread was much much longer than this, so I guess this is an unsuccessful attempt. Has anyone else seen this on Ech...

According to the guide its probably Stenocactus vaupelianus/albatus - this one is finally flowering - it's inside the house. No scent. Has three buds but two flowers have opened. One flower has been open for a week. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/1932_IMG_9513_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.co...

Also meant to say. I broke a head off the C. truncatum (with a fairly long stalky bit)while removing the old dried out fragments. Can I root it to make a new plant? if so how? I've also got a Pleiospilos simulans and a P. nelli which are showing no signs of splitting or drying out. When do I water t...

Conophyum and other mesembs watering advice?
I got a couple of bare-rooted conophytums and potted them up last weekend. Now they're starting to wrinkle. Should I panic? I potted them into dry soil, when do I water these guys? are they growing now? They have some seed pods. Conophytum truncatum Conophytum meyeri I am in cool temperate southern ...

No problems about highjacking the thread this is all good to know. I was going to repot soon into Daiv cactus mix cut with 2 parts coarse (propagating) sand (1-2mm) to one part cactus mix. Will this be ok or can you suggest a better mix for these Memembs? The cactus mix is daiv's ratios of 1 part ea...

my new favourite plant - Astrophytum capricorne
Just got this one. it's only in a 2inch pot and has a flower bud on it. I thought they didn't flower until they are 5-6 years old? or do these grow much slower and flower at a smaller size than A. ornatum/myriostigma because these 2 species are in 3-4" pots with flower buds (see last image)? ht...
