Re: If you were to start over, what would you do differently?

Imagine that you wake up one morning and discover that your collection was stolen overnight… or that an aggressive nematode killed all your cacti or that a small meteor hit your greenhouse 😊. Imagine you are forced to move to a different country and cant take your cacti with you… These all sound li...

New fertilizers welcome (?)

Good day, y'all! I've found a new slow-release fert formula that seems to be the one I'm looking for since slow-release gypsum ferts has unfortunately out of production here in Jakarta. They are SAPROTAN FertiPhos and Meroke Korn-Kali B (you can refer them as FertiPhos + Korn-Kali B). What I'm inter...

Re: Anyone from/have visited/have stayed in Indonesia?

Me. In 2013, I joined the 2nd Indonesia Cactus and Succulent Show. It's a memorable memory. It's in Jakarta, I don't remember well. However, I remember clearly shows here. There are many beautiful plants. I especially like a "cauliflower" ball shape. So beautiful. Awesome! I remember I us...

I think I'll be on a hiatus for a while

Hey everyone. My apologies for not posting something for a while. This year's been quite challenging and I've been dealing with lots of work that put me astray from my garden. Also there have been few incidents in the garden that just made me exhausted. But do not worry, most of the plants are fine....

Re: Adi's collections - December update

Happy belated Holidays, everyone! In this December update, I'd show some important stuffs that happened this month: The weather got wetter and more humid, and therefore more rain. Thanks to this, I can skip waterings and only go with once every two weeks, for now Some plants kicked the bucket: a Eup...

Re: Some other things I forgot to mention way earlier

Hi Adi, Re. question #1 -- no problem if you prepare your watering solution in the evening and water your plants the next morning. With that said, I would avoid letting it sit for more than a day or two since the nitrogen in your ferts will be feeding algae instead of your plants. Re. question #2 -...

Some other things I forgot to mention way earlier

I'm back! I noticed I haven't been posting here for quite a while and this may be concerning for some of y'all. The fact is my collection and I are doing OK, with some camaraderie going on under the hot, unpredictable Indonesian sun. Rain has left the room and now I'm stuck with regular fert schedul...

Re: Adi's collections - November update

I can understand flowers being a bit too intense. My T. alonsoi are too young to flower, but my Trichodiadema densum and Echinocereus pulchellus have these intense, magenta flowers that can be quite blinding in the sun that I have to look away before long! Yeah, while I agree those colors are impre...

Re: Adi's collections - November update

Here's the bonus thread for non-cacti plants that I think deserve the spotlight as well... since y'know, some of these are my first-timer.

Another Pachypodium saundersii blooming. Question: how do you pronounce 'Pachypodium'? Is it 'pa-chee' or 'pa-key'?

Adi's collections - November update

It's December and I kinda lost track on my monthly update; ironic, as I think monthly update would be more easily manageable. Okay, without further ado, let's dive in! So, the dreaded drought is about to end, and we got tons of humidity and increasingly more rain and thunderstorms to boot. It's now ...

Local cactus (and other rare succulents) event just held!

Hi everyone, Last Sunday, I went to another plant event in Jakarta, this time it's about rare cacti and other succulents, esp. caudiciforms and xeric plants. I had fun looking at and taking photos of the plants offered there and I think it'd be interesting if I share them with y'all here on this for...

Re: Quick update

Hi Steve, I think constructing a roof for my garden will require some administration and permit before I can proceed to do so, and from what I know it's quite complicated and judging from the density of my neighborhood, I think it'll be loads and loads of work. In fact, I do have plans for my future...

Quick update

Hi all, I'd just give a quick update with details on my monthly thread update: The weather's gone pretty much unpredictable by now: when report said it'd rain, it's shiny all day and vice versa. I've planned that I'll only collect rainwater if there's a thunderstorm, esp. with loud thunders but pref...

Re: It's raining again!

The weather forecast has predicted that the it'll rain more often now as it's getting closer to the end of the year. I've looked more references and saw that fungi and bacteria tend to flourish - something we exactly don't want to happen - when there's nitrogen abundance, as well as pH drop in soil....
