It's a cheap souvenir that buyers have to pay an extra $1.50 for.
Like @7george said, some can be salvaged. I've found that using rubbing alcohol as a solvent for dissolving the glue works very well. It does not damage the plant and removes most of the glue without damaging the growth tip.

Re: Documenting your collection
Creating a spreadsheet on Excel or Google sheets seems to work well for me. For Google Sheets, it's stored in the cloud and can be accessed anywhere, as long as there's wifi.

Re: old man cactus
#2 is Cephalocereus senilis. It's a rare plant, at least in the US.
#4 may be Espostoopsis dybowskii.

Re: ID Confusion, Help Appreciated!
@Teaspoons, Cleistocactus brookeae is very variable. I've seen pictures of it with white or grey spines. In the end, I don't think yours is C. brookeae because the stems are too wide and the habit is not shrubby. I think yours is a Weberbauerocereus of some sort, probably W. johnsonii or W. winteria...

Re: ID Confusion, Help Appreciated!
It looks a lot like a plant I have labeled Cleistocactus brookeae. Yes, this could either be a Weberbauerocereus or Cleistocactus, not Weberocereus.

Re: Juul's Giant original cactus
I would wait until next spring to repot, as it's best not to disturb them when they go dormant for the winter. A general rule of thumb for a cactus mix is 50% inorganic material (lava rock, pumice, or whatever's available where you live) and 50% organic material. The bagged stuff from Home Depot nee...

Re: Juul's Giant original cactus
The larger branches on the mother plants look ready, but I would wait a little longer for the two smaller branches to get larger on the second plant.

Re: Juul's Giant original cactus
Hi @daveedcacti, no worries on the delay. Your Juul's Giants look very healthy, and yes, that is the real thing. To answer your question on why one cutting grew three branches, I suspect it's because more of the cutting was above ground and exposed to sunlight, so it was able to obtain more nutrient...

Yes, I'm in the San Jose Area. I believe there are a few others on here that are in the South Bay.

Re: Looking for Fellow Succelent Enthusiast in San Jose, CA Area to Connect
Welcome! Feel free to check out some facebook groups. I believe there's one for people in the Bay Area, called SF Bay Area Succulent Collectors. I believe the one at the high school is for the San Jose C and S Society. It's in Sunnyvale off El Camino. I'll be there on Saturday morning. Be sure to ge...

Re: Juul's Giant original cactus
Hi Dave, as long as you're able to remove the rotted ends and allow the healthy middle section to callous and heal, then splitting the cuttings into 4 pieces is doable. Make sure that there's no infected tissue left on the healthy middle portion and to sterilize the knife with alcohol after each cut...

Re: A couple new plants from HP
That is a possibility, but our plants look nearly identical to each other when we first brought them. I think the main reason why they ended up looking different is because of the different growing conditions and climates they reside in. For example, my mix has time release fertilizer and the plant ...

Re: A couple new plants from HP
Edit : Is there a reason why yours has bigger and more sounds then mine ? IDK, there could be a number of reasons. The mix it's in contains some time release fertilizer and was under direct sunlight for 8+ hours during the growing season. Also, yours is sharing a pot with another cactus, so maybe t...

Re: Two columnars I can't figure....
I have two columnar cactus that I've owned for a few years that I can't solidify an ID on and am hoping someone will have some suggestions. The first came labelled as Lemaireocereus chende. I believe it should be a Pilosocereus now and I also understand they are a bit unusual in collections. Since ...
