Re: My flowering Cacti 2021
Harald, very stunning plants. Love them. Have you posted any overall pictures of your garden beds? If you have, would you mind posting a link to them here so I can see them? Thanks. If you have not, would you please?

Neoporteria nidus or N. villosa or another
So I have been starting back into the hobby after letting my plants coast/slide/die for too many years. I have this one plant which has flowered for me first in 2008 and 2010, but I don't have many photo's in between and I don't remember it flowering. Could I really have been neglecting my plants th...

Re: Another unidentified young round cactus...type of golden barrel?
Ha Ha Aiko!! I have a work associate that lives in Brooklyn. I think he would have a big problem with you saying Brooklyn didn't exist anymore as a town. It is one of the 5 Boroughs of NYC: Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and The Bronx. But, yes, back in 1898 New York City did consolidat...

Re: Repotting Winter Hardy Cacti
I put all of my newly potted winter hardy cacti outdoors in the sun today. I didn't water even though its been a week since repotting. I did cover them to block some of the sun. I didn't really take a photo to be able to ID each plant. I could make a list of what I have, but they are all listed in t...

Re: Repot cactus in Tucson AZ
I can't help with the ID, I'm pretty rusty there, but I'd almost guess its an Echinopsis-but don't hold me to it. The one I had was a night bloomer. Where and when did you get it? Has it ever bloomed before? I hope your pot has drainage holes in it. It does need repotting as the offsets are getting ...

Re: Repotting Winter Hardy Cacti
Keith: Did a little further reading about N. magnificus in "Cacti for the Connoisseur" by John Pilbeam. I think you have the correct ID for it. Thanks. In Pilbeam's book he says that N. magnificus has one drawback in that it gets brown spots from still winter cold conditions. I know I have...

Dave, that even goes for town names too. I don't live very far from Chester NJ. PA has Nottingham. MA has Gloucester. And so on.

Re: Internet cookies
I started seeing aquarium ads recently. I guess there is more money in fish tanks. I have to say I did and do click on them on purpose as I'd rather see them than other ads.

Re: Mealybug!
If anyone is using the soap dilution I gave above, I just corrected it. Please note. I suppose you could easily get by with just 5 Tablespoons and forget the 1/4 teaspoon.

So now you should try and figure out what went wrong. Do you know when it started?

Re: Mealybug!
I had root mealybugs in my dormant Rebutia and Sulcorebutia and other cacti. Pretty bad case. Maybe December in the 1990's-a long way till Spring. I de-potted. Washed all potting mix from roots. Washed plants in 2% Ivory Liquid soap ( Edit : 5 Tbs plus 1/4 tsp per gallon water, or 20 ml per liter ) ...

Re: Repotting Winter Hardy Cacti
Here is a photo of the Pediocactus simpsonii taken June 11, 2017. I bought this cactus from John Spain at a Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society Spring Show and Sale. That was April 11, 2011. I had it growing outdoors overwinter for a few years after purchase. But I've been growing it in a pot a...

Re: Repotting Winter Hardy Cacti
Roots look good you grow them unheated I guess ? Where I live now it doesn't get cold enough for many of my winter hardy plants to flower for me or at least not very good. its been a few years since we had freezing temperature at night. Just dry winds all Winter . the big unknow looks Notocactus Ma...

Re: what should I do if anything ?
This is what I would do and why. what: depot your plant to look under the potting mix. Check for rot. If any, cut off the offset and re-pot after callous formation. why: It does look like your plant is rotting and it has formed an offset under the potting mix. I'd be afraid of the offset dying. Plea...

Re: can i repot cacti any time of the year?
If I could answer your question regarding how to tell if your plant is growing after repotting: I just wait to see if any new growth starts. It can take a month or more to notice anything. Look right in the center of the plant. That is where new growth will start. You could try taking a photo of the...
