Hi, your outdoor cacti look beautiful! This past winter was very harsh in the northeast and I am impressed that cacti can survive such extreme temperatures. I was curious about what kind of soil/rocks/gravel mixture you are using to grow your cacti? I imagine it would be something fast-draining sinc...

Haha not for me... i get glochids stuck in me all the time. i've never really had a problem with leaving a few in my fingers/hands. sometimes they get a little raised and uncomfortable but nothing too bad...just some residual pain :?

Stenocactus Crispatus?

Hi everyone! I just bought this cactus from a local greenhouse and my best guess is that it is a Stenocactus Crispatus. If anyone can either confirm this or offer another possible i.d. that'd be great. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/1712_img_0974_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpi...

you could use something like Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect control...something that has Imidacloprid in it. I'm not sure exactly how long it stays in the plant but i think that it is several months at least.

what causes a cactus to develop a tap root? is it just the way that some cacti grow or is it the result of certain growing conditions/techniques?
