Today's flowers
Hello, I noticed a new flower in my garden this morning. It is listed below first. This cactus (South American) has never bloomed in my yard. Alas, it has been difficult to grow this outdoors in Sparks. Seems to like moderate weather and temps in the 60 to 75 F range. Here goes: southamericanrareflo...

Oh. I think it is Maihueniopsis boliviana from Bolivia. But There are 'bout four varieties. Note the stem in the center of the flower. That might ID it.

Maihueniopsis darwinii
I tried for several years to grow this particular form of cactus from Bolivia or Argentina. It grows into a huge bunch at high elevations.
Maihueniopsis darwinii or a related variety.( From Mesa Garden.) I will post the flowers in a few days-maybe.

Hybrid Opuntia with Cylindropuntia?
Hello,
Is it possible to cross Opuntia with Cylindropuntia?
Note: this is a great forum. I like the spell check. But how difficult would it be to add the cactus names in the spell check too?

Re: Easy seed production
Hello, to answer both comments, yes, maybe the slush could substitute for tomato juice or catsup. How do I go from slush to glob? I squish the seeds out of the pod using thumb and finger pressure into a tray or bowl. I then throw the pods into the garden near a rock, wall or plant. T...

Cutting out damage and clonining
This fat Echin. from Lincoln Co. NM had one stem sun-damaged four years ago. I cut it out, dried it, and planted it last summer. Now four months later, it is making a recovery. Note: The winter has skipped Sparks NV. Also at the bottom of this post is a E. whipplei I dug up because it was overgrown....
