Arizona trip
Our youngest daughter moved to Arizona last fall. For our first visit there I thought it would be nice to catch some cactus blooming (Hopefully before the heat really settled in). There is a rather long period of time when the various ones flower so I tried to catch the end period of some while tryi...

Tiny hint of spring
We had had a few days with warmth lately (mixed with some pretty cool days) here in Connecticut. Appears one the few surviving outdoor plants may have some seed pods swelling up and starting to change color (they should be turning red before the birds will likely get them).

I am back (for now at least)
Appears I have been missing from the forum for about 4 1/2 years, about the same time I bought a bad plant that evidently had a fungus that pretty much wiped out my outdoor cactus garden. Thinking I just may start again withe few survivors and maybe a couple new additions (replacements). Ray

Re: well wishes for our east coast members
I still havent heard from my parents yet. Power must still be out in SE PA. Sandy is nothing new for the Atlantic coast. I was in a few Nor"easters and a few tropical systems, including Ivan which entered my county there as a hurricane. Hope you hear from them soon. Looking around here and the...

Re: well wishes for our east coast members
We were quite lucky here in northern Ct. We are in a valley and missed much of the wind. We did lose power ofr a day (and may lose it again as the put pieces back together), but no real damage from trees falling like in other parts of the state (plus many of the questionable ones dropped in last yea...

Re: A rare and awesome sighting...
Pretty neat to see one when unexpected. They are making a resurgence here in Connecticut after a very long absense and in the past few years there have been a number of them that show up populated areas. I haven't personaly seen one in my town (although they have made an appearance now and then). I ...

Fortunetly it did not abort and flowered last week (have a pic I think, just haven't posted yet). E. missouriensis also has flowered ( I think Daiv's may have beaten mine to flower)

I also cleaned out some that didn't make it through the winter, few pads of this or that lost, and a couple plants. Also have added a few more additions
