Early riser

While everything else is still in winter mode, this one pad (just to right of center) appears to one to awaken early. I just noticed it sunday stucking up instead of flat to ground.

I did manage to get to John Spains hardy table of course and found a couple new things for outside. He wa...

Very nice pics. I have traveled trhough that area a couple times, but only on the roads. From my very limited knowledge it seems these rocky ridges where the tall trees can't live well are fairly popular spots for our native Cactus (besides sunny shorelines of course). The metacomet ridgeline here i...

Hhmm I wonder

If volcanic ash would be good in cactus soil. Seems there might be some available if I could just climb up there with a bucket or something (Alaska's redoubt volcano today)

A little expansion

I put a addition on my outdoor garden this past weekend. I lined the bottom with grapefruit sized (sized not shape) trap rock I had available, then filled/covered most of the gaps with smaller stones and some mortar 'patties' I had from having chimney work done this past fall (flat pieces of mortar ...

S l o w l y losing the snow blanket now and some have been uncovered after just under 2 1/2 months. The March sun (when out) has been doing its thing. I think it will all be open by this weekend and I'll be able to tell any obvious losses. If the extended forcast holds out there should be a drying t...

Mine had just started showing more of the rocks around the perimeter and a little soil around the edges with one tag sticking out (no cacti visible). Now it buried again. Oh well, wait a while longer I guess.
