Well...just about anything that is or was opuntia at one point or another (such as Brasiliopuntia which was once Opuntia brasilliensis I believe) is called a prickly pear, or at least can be. Plus if this thing was grown by Altman, which so many big box plants are, they'll 20 plants the same name ev...

That's pretty wild! But, still doesn't compare to my disturbing find while mowing the lawn this spring. It looked like... ummmm... A male body part.... That was probably one of the many other stinkhorn mushrooms...they're quite the graphic group of fungi... in fact they belong to th...

I'm positive the first one is Schlumbergera. I wish I had pictures of the other when it bloomed but they were most definitely not Hatoria, I've got several of those and the berries and flowers look nothing like hatoria. They're very Schlumbergera-like only radially symmetrical instead of bilaterally...

Schlumbergera species ID
I've got two schlumbergera that I'm not quite sure of. I know they're not S. truncata but that's about all I know. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/1222_DSC02126_1.jpg The first one is the classic "been in the family for 5 million years" pass-along plant. The flowers are magenta and...

My Minnesota Garden 2011
I made a trip back up to MN to see my parents and weed out my cactus garden (actually the trip was mostly to weed out the garden...my mom called two weeks earlier and said I needed to come weed the garden or she was going to rip it out...). It seems they've really been enjoying the rain this spring ...
