Echeveria and Kalanchoe IDs
I picked up these two little things from Ikea a couple of weeks ago and don't have much confidence in my ability to identify them. Do these seem obvious to anyone? Possible saguaro rot
Some day, I'll be able to answer questions in this subforum rather than only ask them, but... ](*,) I have a little saguaro. I didn't treat it well for the first several years of its life with me (some zone 5b and 7b cold weather; some lack of sun; some overwatering; possibly even some underwatering...

Re: Large aloe ID
Whoa, I had no idea A. vera got so big! I always think of those as the little desk plants, so I looked for other species.
Thanks so much for the ID!

Large aloe ID
I saw this beauty at my farmer's market and couldn't resist, but the seller only knew that it's an Aloe of some sort. http://irrsinn.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/aloe-entire-shape.jpg http://irrsinn.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/aloe-top.jpg http://irrsinn.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/alow-stem...

Repotting in growing season to downsize
Several of my cacti are significantly overpotted in ~4 inch pots due to my inability to find tiny pots I thought could handle wind/thunderstorms without tipping over. I just got in a few new cacti, though, and am going to try potting them in some little 2.75 x 2.75 x 3-inch plastic pots. If those po...

Re: Sickly Echinocereus dasyacanthus
With the knife-wielding aid of a dear, dear friend who is less grossed out by squishy textures than me, we conducted an autopsy this morning. Here's a final picture of the full body of this little critter, not only doomed from the start, but misidentified all along. :( http://irrsinn.net/images/cact...

Re: Sickly Echinocereus dasyacanthus
I haven't poked this yet to test for squishiness, but if it's fungal, could this have been prevented with better root cleaning or some other cleaning procedure when I get a plant?

Sickly Echinocereus dasyacanthus
I was gifted a Texas rainbow cactus from a nursery back at the end of March. Following Steve Johnson's advice , I cleaned the roots (this one was caked in perlite, which I'll admit I was a little shy in digging out from the body, but I think I got clear from the roots), soaked them in peroxide, let ...

Is this a tiger's jaw?
I got these cuttings from a friend that claimed they were tiger's jaws, but they don't look like pictures of those I'm seeing on the internet. Can anyone confirm that or suggest an alternate ID?

Re: Pot size for new prickly pears
Thank you! I got them potted, but wow, those glochids are no joke. Guess I better get used to that or get a different kind of glove. The "gross feeder" idea is new to me, and excellent to know. Does that mean (pot weight notwithstanding) I should generally stick with a soil mix to ...

Pot size for new prickly pears
I'm pretty new to cactus gardening, and have just ordered a couple of prickly pear pads (one dark knight, one winter glow beavertail) to try growing. I think I'm ready with regards to soil mix components (I'm at least ready to try something out!), but what I don't see around here is how to avoid ove...
