Subfamily: Cactoideae
Tribe: Cacteae
Distribution: Queretaro de Arteaga, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas - Mexico (North America)
Habit: Globose
Flower: PinkEncounterability: Unusual in Collections
Species Notes: This ssp. has 1 to 2 central spines and does not clump as readily as ssp. compressa. The central spine of centralifera is exceptionally long, up to 2 1/2 inches (60mm). John Pilbeam notes that this long central spine requires strong sun to be reproduced in cultivation - this is notable if you are trying to ID plants not in habitat.
