Subfamily: Cactoideae
Tribe: Cacteae
Distribution: Horticultrual Origin (Cultivation)
Habit: Cushion
Flower: PinkEncounterability: Common Worldwide
Species Notes: This cultivar is one of the most bizarre of all monstrose cactus forms. Looking like something from out of a science-fiction movie its grotesque appearance has made it a fun conversation piece for the greenhouse. It is called "Fred" after the name of the man who discovered it and not because it resembles your neighbor "Fred" or the "Fred" at your office. Flowers are also monstrose.
